Centro Niemeyer- Los cuernos de Don Friolera

A hundred years ago, Ramón María del Valle-Inclán already knew what today’s timelines confirm: a well-placed rumour can blow up a life. In Los cuernos de don Friolera, a military officer receives a poisonous anonymous note about his wife and spirals into jealousy, honour codes and a chain of absurd decisions that feel, well… surprisingly familiar.

Valle-Inclán has a field day mixing tragedy with sharp humour: echoes of ancient Greek rhapsodes, puppet-theatre mischief, Calderonian honour, Shakespearean jealousy and a touch of Brechtian distance — all overseen by the ever-watchful voice of “the people”, commenting, judging and laughing along the way.

A classic that comes back as a delightfully uncomfortable mirror: we still fall for the same tricks… just with better Wi-Fi.
