ArteOviedo celebrates its 15th edition at Trascorrales with new proposals and a strong commitment to art collecting
The Trascorrales hall is hosting the 15th ArteOviedo Fair from 12 November, a well-established event in Oviedo’s cultural calendar that brings together works from 14 galleries and can be visited until 16 November. The Councillor for Culture and president of the Municipal Foundation for Culture, David Álvarez, officially inaugurated this edition, which once again places contemporary art at the heart of the city’s cultural life.
This year’s exhibition route reflects the creative diversity of Asturias’ artistic ecosystem: the expressive demons of Pablo Iglesias Prada appear just steps away from the characters of Juan Díaz-Faes; the Asturias captured through the lens of Ricardo Villoria enters into dialogue with Galano’s reinterpretation; and Luzía Pedregal’s imaginative universe connects, from end to end, with the symbolic portals of Alba Matilla. A visual map that confirms the vitality of the sector and its ability to generate new narratives from Oviedo.
The fair’s director, Natalia Alonso, highlighted the expanded programme and the addition of new workshops and training activities: a reading space dedicated to Balthus, theatre proposals, and sessions inspired by creators such as Sophie Taeuber-Arp or Leonora Carrington. Complementing this offer is a particularly significant novelty for the local artistic ecosystem: an art collecting advisory service aimed at strengthening the relationship between audiences, artists, and galleries.
Leading this service is Natalia García, who will provide personalised guidance. García stressed the importance of bringing art collecting closer to new audiences and reminded visitors that ArteOviedo showcases works for all budgets, from affordable pieces to others of higher artistic value.
During the inauguration, the fair’s annual recognitions were awarded. The “In Memory of Kely” medal went to El verdugo de almas, by Pablo Iglesias Prada, presented by Zooh Micro Gallery and selected by the Municipal Foundation for Culture to be incorporated into its collection. The Caja Rural Production Grant was awarded to Iyán Castaño, whose sand-inspired textured works will join the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, alongside new pieces acquired by the museum’s Friends Association.
The Oviedo School of Art is also participating in this edition and will play a prominent role in the parallel activities, reinforcing the link between training, creation, and territory.
