Culture allocates more than €1.1 million to protect and promote Asturian cultural heritage
The Regional Ministry of Culture has published five grant calls in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) to support research, conservation, restoration and promotion of Asturian cultural heritage, with a total budget of €1.11 million, awarded through a competitive process.
The grants are open to individuals, non-profit organisations, companies and local authorities, and cover both tangible and intangible heritage, reinforcing a view of culture as a driver of identity, social cohesion and future development — values closely aligned with Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
Funding includes support for the conservation of traditional structures such as hórreos and paneras, the restoration of protected cultural assets, archaeological projects, the promotion of cultural heritage and oral tradition, and the preservation of heritage sites in rural brañas. Applications may be submitted electronically within 10 to 20 days of publication in the BOPA. The regional government also highlights the significant increase in heritage funding in recent years and announces further grant schemes to be launched in the coming months, including a specific call for traditional cider presses.
