Oviedo 2031 addresses accessibility and care at its second participation roundtable

The Jaime Herrero room at the Asturian Youth Institute hosted the second participation roundtable organised by Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031 on Tuesday. The session focused on culture, accessibility and care, three key areas for building an open, inclusive bid that is connected to the real needs of citizens.

The meeting forms part of the listening and participation process promoted by Oviedo 2031 throughout July, with the aim of incorporating diverse perspectives into the second bid book. Through these roundtables, the project seeks to create a space for dialogue with professionals, organisations, groups and people linked to different cultural and social fields.

During the session, participants addressed issues related to access to culture, the removal of physical, cognitive and social barriers, and the importance of placing care at the heart of cultural policies. Those taking part shared experiences, needs and proposals to move towards a more accessible, diverse programme that is sensitive to different ways of participating in cultural life.

This roundtable is the second session held this week and forms part of the calendar of sectoral meetings through which Oviedo 2031 continues to work on defining a bid built through citizen participation.

Through these sessions, Oviedo 2031 strengthens its commitment to culture understood as a tool for coexistence, inclusion and collective wellbeing.
