The Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra Opens the Series of Cultural Presentations at the Oviedo – European Capital of Culture Stand at FIDMA with the Launch of its New Season

The Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra has inaugurated the series of cultural presentations at Oviedo’s stand at the Asturias International Trade Fair (FIDMA), which this year is dedicated to the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
The Councillor for Festivities, Social Centres and Youth, Covadonga Díaz, presented the event, which featured speeches by the President of the Oviedo City Music Foundation, Pilar Rubiera, and the Artistic Director, Cosme Marina. The occasion was accompanied by a performance from a quartet of the orchestra.
Pilar Rubiera recalled that 2025 is a key year for Oviedo’s bid for the cultural title, and stressed that the city is working together with other Asturian municipalities “to show Europe and the world that we are a small territory with a remarkable landscape, historical, cultural and social personality.” She underlined that Oviedo “is proud of its history and cultural and musical tradition, and of its centuries-old ties with major European capitals.”
Cosme Marina highlighted the importance of music in European identity and announced that the new season of the Auditorio Concert Series and the Luis G. Iberni Piano Sessions will have “a distinctly European vocation.” From 29 October 2025 to 4 June 2026, the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium will host 18 performances by artists such as Zubin Mehta, Yuja Wang, William Christie, Jakub Orlinski and Pinchas Zukerman, in a programme both opened and closed by the Oviedo Filarmonía.
With this event, Oviedo reaffirms its commitment to musical and cultural excellence on its path towards becoming European Capital of Culture 2031.
