Oviedo 2031 is gaining momentum: this is what its Trade Fair stand will look like

Oviedo is getting ready to showcase its full creative and cultural potential at the upcoming 68th edition of the Asturias International Trade Fair (FIDMA), which will take place from Saturday 2 to Sunday 17 August 2025. This year, the entire municipal pavilion will be dedicated to Oviedo 2031, the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture — with the aim of bringing the project closer to the public.
Under the slogan “Puxa Europa, the future is now”, the space is designed as a meeting point to explore the key ideas behind a bid that aims to go beyond the local and become a driving force for social cohesion, cultural development and international visibility.
The 100-square-metre stand will offer a visitor experience for all audiences, featuring audiovisual content, interactive areas, informational panels and participatory activities. In addition to learning about the core pillars of the project, visitors will be able to share their ideas, answer a short cultural survey, and enter raffles to win tickets for events such as opera, zarzuela, concerts at the Auditorium, or performances during the San Mateo Festival.
There will also be fun and familiar nods to the city — including the iconic Mafalda statue, once again featured outside the pavilion — and lively entertainment, from folk music performances to dance therapy sessions.
One of the highlights of the programme will be Oviedo Day at the Fair, held on Friday 16 August, with the participation of Mayor Alfredo Canteli and other institutional representatives. This will be a key moment to reaffirm the City Council’s commitment to a bid that seeks to involve all of Asturias.
Through its presence at FIDMA, the City Council takes a further step in its strategy to promote awareness and public participation around Oviedo 2031 — an ambitious project that faces a major milestone this year: submitting its official application to the European selection committee
