Oviedo 2031 receives over 120 cultural projects through its call for citizen participation.

The call for Expressions of Interest launched by Oviedo’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2031 has far exceeded expectations, receiving over 120 cultural proposals.
The Oviedo 2031 team celebrates this outcome as a clear sign of the region’s commitment, creativity, and active engagement. The submitted initiatives come from a wide range of cultural, educational, and social backgrounds: independent artists, associations, schools, third-sector organisations, neighbourhood groups, and small creative businesses.
The proposals span from local, personal projects to collaborations developed with European partners, reflecting an open, inclusive vision aligned with the core values of the European Capital of Culture programme.
The candidacy team highlights the cross-cutting nature of the ideas submitted, as well as their quality, diversity, and transformative potential. Projects have been received from seasoned professionals with long-standing careers, as well as from emerging young creators.
Currently, the Oviedo 2031 team is analysing the proposals. Some of them will be selected to form part of the official bid book that the city will present to the European Union at the end of 2025, as part of the first stage of the selection process.
This citizen participation process has proven to be a key tool for fostering collective engagement and showcasing the cultural strength and vitality of Asturias and its surroundings. The candidacy team deeply thanks everyone for their interest and reaffirms its commitment to building an open, ambitious, and shared project.
