Oviedo brought together twelve ensembles from across the Principality for the “Oviedo coral canta Europa” cycle
The Chamber Hall of the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium hosted, on 10, 11 and 12 November, a choral event that celebrated Europe’s musical diversity and showcased the talent of Asturias’ vocal ensembles.
Oviedo enjoyed three days of vocal music with the celebration of “Oviedo coral canta Europa”, a programme organised by the Municipal Culture Foundation in collaboration with the Federation of Choirs of Asturias (FECORA). The cycle, held on 10, 11 and 12 November, brought together twelve choral groups from the Principality and drew a full audience at each session in the Chamber Hall of the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium.
The event opened on Monday 10 with performances by Coral Dafne, Coro Vetusta, Coro San Javier and Coro Reconquista. On Tuesday 11, the stage welcomed the Coru de Muyeres de San Esteban, the Capilla Musical Palacio de Meres, the Coro del Centro Asturiano and the Orfeón Principado. The programme concluded on Wednesday 12 with Coro Lumen, the Coral Polifónica de Asturias Cruz de la Victoria, the Ochote Cantos del Fontán and Coro Son Astur.
The participating ensembles performed works spanning European polyphony, sacred and secular repertoire, traditional pieces, hybrid compositions, and works by composers from countries such as France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Portugal. The stylistic variety and the quality of the performances highlighted the vitality of Asturias’ choral scene.
The event aligned fully with the vision of Oviedo 2031, which promotes a city that engages in dialogue with Europe through local talent, participation, and cultural diversity.
