Oviedo moves forward with the transformation of the former Palacio de los Niños into the future House of the Arts

Oviedo is taking a new step in the project that will transform the former Palacio de los Niños, in the Parque de Invierno, into the future House of the Arts, one of the key pillars of the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031. The proposal envisions a contemporary cultural space equipped with three rehearsal rooms, two auditoriums —one indoor venue for 300 people and another outdoors— and dedicated areas for artistic residencies, open to local creators as well as artists from other regions and countries.

The transformation will address long-standing needs of ensembles such as the Oviedo Filarmonía, the City of Oviedo Pipe Band, and the City of Oviedo Concert Band, which will finally have suitable and stable spaces to develop their work. The building will also be available to any collective or group seeking a place to rehearse, research or create.

The technical development of the project has been entrusted to the international studio B720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, known for works such as the new Chamartín railway station —winner of the International Architecture Awards 2024—, the Barcelona Port hub, and the future intermodal station in Gijón. Their expertise in innovation and sustainability will guide the design of a space inspired by leading European cultural infrastructures like Porto’s Casa da Música or Paris’ Cité de la Musique.

The future House of the Arts aims to become a vibrant meeting point for contemporary creation and a symbol of the Oviedo that looks towards 2031: an open, creative city ready to project its cultural energy across Europe.
