Ópera de Oviedo
With nearly eighty years of uninterrupted seasons, the opera program organized annually by the Ópera de Oviedo Foundation at the Teatro Campoamor is one of the most established and prestigious in Spain.
It attracts an average of 30,000 spectators per year and regularly co-produces with the leading opera houses on the international circuit. From legendary performers like Alfredo Kraus, Montserrat Caballé, and Luciano Pavarotti to today’s most renowned opera stars, the stage of the Campoamor has showcased the very best in opera and welcomes audiences from across Spain and around the world.
Ópera de Oviedo places special emphasis on its social and educational initiatives, organizing an average of sixty activities per season, including family-friendly performances, free concerts in rural areas, large-scale outdoor screenings, and programs for vulnerable groups. It is also the only opera season in Spain with a resident children’s opera company.
The season has received over twenty national and international awards, has produced two world premieres of contemporary operas, and holds among its honors the Gold Medal of the City of Oviedo and the National Award for Spanish Lyric Theaters for Best Institution.
