Every summer, the courtyard of the Historic Building of the University of Oviedo becomes the stage for Tiempos Nuevos, a concert series that brings together local, national, and international artists to showcase what contemporary popular music is—and what it sounds like. It’s music born on the fringes, in the margins, at the intersections. Music created from the edges, but always one step ahead.
Tiempos Nuevos champions bold, daring proposals with a strong identity. You’ll hear rock, folk, urban, experimental, or singer-songwriter music—always with a curious, forward-thinking perspective. These are bands with their feet in the present and their minds in the future. The music of tomorrow, today.
The series takes its name from the opening words of the iconic album that Ilegales released in 1982—a nod to the free, provocative, and deeply creative spirit that the Asturian band represented. That same attitude is shared by the more than 80 groups that have taken this stage in recent years: Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Cachimba, Toundra, Ed Maverick, Los Estanques, Califato ¾, VVV [Trippin’ You], Sr. Chinarro, Rojuu, Tarta Relena, Los Punsetes, Albany, Nuria Graham, Futuro Terror, and Elio Toffana, among many others.
