The Capital of Culture Team meets with representatives of the Ópera de Oviedo Foundation and the children’s company La Federica

The Oviedo 2031 European Capital of Culture team met this morning at the headquarters of the Ópera de Oviedo Foundation with its Artistic Director, Celestino Varela, and Maite García Heres, founder and director of the children’s musical company La Federica.
During the meeting, the representatives of the candidacy learned first-hand about the project developed by this company, which since 2018 has been adapting and reimagining operas to bring them closer to young audiences. La Federica is currently working on a new version of Carmen. “It is a feminist vision set in the period prior to women’s suffrage which, after an intense dialogue with the teenagers in the company, seeks to deliver a clear message: love is never a sacrifice,” explained García Heres.
One of the shared objectives of this collaboration is to open the world of opera to broader and more diverse audiences, especially children and young people, thus strengthening the bond between culture and new generations.
