The El Desarme Brotherhood reaffirms its support for Oviedo 2031 bid

Oviedo’s stand at the Asturias International Trade Fair (FIDMA), dedicated to the bid for European Capital of Culture 2031, hosted the presentation of the El Desarme Festival, which will take place from 17 to 26 October. The Councillor for Tourism, Alfredo García Quintana, highlighted the importance of gastronomy as a driver of tourism and culture, noting that El Desarme is “the quintessential gastronomic festival” and that work is underway to achieve its recognition as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Acting Mayor Mario Arias stressed that El Desarme “has united history, culture, and gastronomy since 1836” and is an example of collaboration between institutions and citizens. He invited everyone to enjoy an expanded programme with historical, cultural, and gastronomic activities designed to attract visitors to the city.
The Cofrade Mayor (Grand Master), Miguel Ángel de Dios, presented the main new features, including the first Music Band Festival (18 October), the opening address by Nando Agüeros (17 October), and poetry and photography competitions. The traditional menu will be served in 42 establishments, accompanied by “Bocados del Desarme” (El Desarme Bites) in bars and restaurants across the city.
With this edition, Oviedo reaffirms its commitment to culture and tradition, integrating El Desarme as part of its bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2031.
