The FMC’s autumn cultural programme will have a strong european perspective

Oviedo’s stand at the Asturias International Trade Fair (FIDMA), dedicated to the city’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2031, hosted the presentation of the Municipal Culture Foundation’s (FMC) programme for the final four months of the year. Acting Mayor Mario Arias stressed that the offer, encompassing music, cinema, visual arts, and festivals, “reinforces Oviedo’s role as a cultural benchmark in Spain and Europe” and helps “position the city as creative, open, and innovative” within the framework of the 2031 bid.

The event featured the heads of each cycle: José Castellano (La Noche Blanca), Marta Fermín (Professional Art Week), Gonzalo García-Conde (Vetusta Jazz), Pablo de María (SACO and RADAR), and, via videoconference, Cristina Gestido (Interdisciplinary Chamber Music Cycle, CIMCO).

Highlights of the programme include:

La Noche Blanca (4 October), with over 40 free artistic proposals in unique spaces.

Professional Art Week (late October), with exhibitions and activities in museums, public spaces, and the former Arms Factory.

SACO and RADAR, an audiovisual programme with a strong presence of European cinema.

Vetusta Jazz, with an international line-up and activities in neighbourhoods and streets.

CIMCO, opening on 18 September with the prestigious Trío Arbós.

With this programme, the FMC is committed to a diverse, high-quality cultural offering that, in Arias’s words, “builds bridges with Europe and reinforces Oviedo’s commitment to culture as a social and economic driver.”
