The Oviedo 2031 Candidacy Introduces Its Artistic Direction Amid Great Unity

The Kuivi space, located in Almacenes Industriales, hosted the introduction of Oviedo’s European Capital of Culture candidacy’s artistic direction on Wednesday, March 26. Natalia Álvarez Simó was presented as the artistic director. The event was attended by representatives from the Principality of Asturias, the University of Oviedo, and the municipalities of Gijón, Avilés, and Siero, along with more than fifty regional cultural agents.
This candidacy centers on the concept of bringing together the entire Asturian region.
Directed by Rodolfo Sánchez, the candidacy will be structured around concepts such as the city itself, the region, and a model that promotes access, participation, and enjoyment of culture under equal conditions, strengthens social cohesion, and supports the creative and cultural fabric.
“We have all the elements necessary to achieve this: a great team; the unity of all Asturian institutions, a powerful cultural creative force, and a great heritage that becomes even greater if we combine the programming of all municipalities,” said the Mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli.
