Dido Carrero and Semíramis González join the Oviedo 2031 curatorial team

The team behind the Oviedo European Capital of Culture 2031 candidacy continues to grow. Dido Carrero Muñiz and Semíramis González Fernández have joined as curators for the areas of Health and Culture and Visual Arts, respectively, becoming part of the group that has been working since last August on the key strands of the project.

With their arrival, the curatorial team now comprises ten members, with diverse yet complementary profiles. Their work will be essential in enriching the proposal that Asturias will present in December 2025, shaping a cultural project that is solid, ambitious, and deeply connected to the region. Each curator works directly with artists, creators, and cultural agents across Asturias to promote projects that will help define the programme of the candidacy.

Dido Carrero Muñiz (Oviedo, 1994) is a molecular biologist, art historian, and researcher. Educated at the University of Oviedo, she began her scientific career in Carlos López Otín’s laboratory, contributing to the description of a new rare disease within the group of progeroid syndromes. She continued her training at Harvard University and King’s College London, later obtaining an FPU Fellowship to pursue her PhD in biomedicine and molecular oncology. Her research on Turritopsis dohrnii, known as the “immortal jellyfish,” received international recognition. In parallel, she studied Art History at the UNED and founded CERÚLEO, a curatorial project exploring the intersection between art and science. She currently works at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid and collaborates as an independent curator.

Semíramis González Fernández (Gijón, 1988) is a cultural manager, art historian, and curator specialising in contemporary art with a feminist perspective. She holds a degree in Art History from the University of Oviedo and a Master’s in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture from the Complutense University of Madrid and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Her professional experience includes institutions such as Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de PalmaPHotoEspañaSCAN Tarragona, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, and IAACC Pablo Serrano. From 2018 to 2022, she was the artistic director of the art fairs JUSTMAD and JUSTLX. Since 2022, she has curated the programme “Visión y Presencia” at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, and since July 2025, she directs LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial.

With these additions, the Oviedo 2031 curatorial team consolidates itself as a plural, first-rate group with complementary profiles working together to develop the programme that will represent Asturias in its bid for the European Capital of Culture title. The candidacy thus reinforces its commitment to a participatory, regional, and forward-looking project, placing culture at the centre of the territory’s transformation.
