Oviedo’s future Casa de las Artes will add new spaces for creation, training and the city’s cultural life

Oviedo’s future Casa de las Artes continues to take shape as one of the city’s most significant cultural projects. The preliminary design for the facility, which will be located in the area of the former Palacio de los Niños, outlines a cultural complex conceived to bring together artistic creation, training, experimentation and programming within a space of around 11,000 square metres.

The building will include a main hall with a capacity of approximately 800 people, designed as a rehearsal space for Oviedo Filarmonía and also prepared to host concerts and other public events. It will be complemented by a dedicated rehearsal hall for the Oviedo City Wind Band and the Oviedo City Bagpipe Band, as well as two additional rooms intended for emerging projects, rehearsals and educational activities.

The project will also incorporate spaces dedicated to artistic creation and experimentation, including a radio platform aimed at young people and a music recording studio. Other facilities planned for the building include a media library for listening sessions and screenings related to the musical world, four areas for educational workshops and ten rehearsal rooms for musicians and ensembles.

The Casa de las Artes will also feature public spaces designed to extend the cultural experience of the building, including a specialised bookshop focused on music and the arts, a café or restaurant, and a terrace viewpoint overlooking the Parque de Invierno and the Aramo mountain range. This new cultural venue is conceived as one of the key infrastructures to strengthen the city’s cultural life and support Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
