Avilés brings together the cultural sector in new participatory roundtables on music and performing arts

The Factoría Cultural in Avilés hosted a new session of the participatory process driven by Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031. The event gathered professionals from the fields of music and performing arts in a space for reflection on the cultural challenges of the region.

Key topics discussed during the session included local cultural engagement, support for contemporary creation, cultural mediation, and arts education for younger generations. The need to develop more cultural offerings for older adults was also highlighted, in light of the region’s ageing population.

The candidacy team emphasized that this project is not solely based on existing heritage, but on the collective capacity to build an innovative, inclusive, and transformative culture.

These roundtables are part of a broader participatory journey across different towns in Asturias, gathering ideas and proposals to shape a shared and representative bid for the entire region.
