Candás hosts the exhibition inspired by The Lightness of Dragonflies at a decisive moment for Oviedo 2031
The town of
Candás is currently hosting an exhibition by Faustino López inspired by The
Lightness of Dragonflies, the book by Carlos López-Otín. Conceived as a tribute
to the Asturian scientist, the show brings together eleven paintings and
twenty-three mobile sculptures that engage with one of the book’s most
recognisable visual symbols: the fusion of the Vitruvian Man with the
symmetrical wings of dragonflies.
The works
explore the balance between gravity and movement, geometric precision and
aesthetic sensitivity. In the canvases, colour and floating forms evoke harmony
and dynamism; in the kinetic sculptures, air becomes part of the artwork
itself, sustaining compositions that oscillate with delicacy and accuracy. The
exhibition stands as a tribute to López-Otín’s scientific and humanistic career
and to his ability to build bridges between knowledge and sensitivity.
The exhibition takes place at a decisive moment for the bid of Oviedo to become European Capital of Culture 2031. López-Otín is a member of the project’s Advisory Council and will take part in Madrid in the defence of the bidbook before the panel of European experts, in a key phase of the selection process.
Hosting the
exhibition in Candás also highlights the territorial dimension accompanying
Oviedo’s candidacy. The involvement of internationally recognised figures such
as López-Otín strengthens the project’s European projection and underlines the
connection between artistic creation, scientific thinking and commitment to the
territory at this decisive stage towards 2031.
