Gijón warmly welcomes the presentation of the Oviedo, European Capital of Culture 2031 project

Yesterday, February 26, the Antiguo Instituto of Gijón hosted the presentation of Oviedo’s candidacy to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031. The event was led by its coordinator, Pepe Mompeán, and its artistic director, Natalia Álvarez Simó. Both explained to those present the importance of involving the entire region in this endeavor. This was the first of the sectoral roundtables, in this case for the cultural and creative sector, held outside the capital. “It will by no means be the only one,” Mompeán announced.
Convinced that “we have the foundations, as well as the talent and potential to achieve it,” attendees were given the mission, by Álvarez Simó, to “be ambassadors” of this candidacy.
