Oviedo presents its 8M poster with the support of the bid for European Capital of Culture 2031
Oviedo has unveiled the official poster and programme for 8 March, International Women’s Day, in an edition that will run from April to June and feature more than 50 activities aimed at the general public, with special attention to children and young people.
This year’s image, under the slogan “Equality and Respect,” is signed by an artist whose visual universe is easily recognisable for its use of colour and the expressive strength of her female figures. Her work focuses on personal stories, identity and memory, and connects naturally with the values of 8M: raising awareness, telling stories and celebrating the strength and diversity of women.
The programme, which will be available on the City Council’s website, includes book presentations, creative workshops, sports activities, volunteer meetings, the celebration of Muyeres Fest, the creation of a collaborative mural and initiatives promoted by different municipal departments. More than fifty activities designed to engage citizens through multiple fields and perspectives, recognising that equality is also built through culture, sport, education and participation.
On 4 March, the institutional ceremony will take place, paying tribute to four women whose careers and commitment represent dedication and professional excellence:
- Purita de la Riva, concert performer, teacher and defender of regional musical heritage.
- Carmen Benedet, pioneer of gallery management in Spain.
- Consuelo Vallina, influential figure in contemporary art in Asturias.
- Elisee Florentino, visual artist and emerging creative voice.
A recognition of diverse trajectories that highlight the talent and contribution of women in the cultural and artistic sphere, and a reminder that equality is not only a claim, but a shared and ongoing commitment. Because 8M is an invitation to keep moving forward — with respect, memory and determination.
