The Opera Foundation Joins Oviedo 2031 Bid at FIDMA

Oviedo’s stand at the Asturias International Trade Fair hosted the presentation of the 78th Opera Season, in an event presided over by Acting Mayor Mario Arias and the President of the Oviedo Opera Foundation, Juan Carlos Rodríguez-Ovejero, alongside representatives of the Opera Foundation and municipal authorities

Arias stressed that opera is “heritage, education, economy, and a source of collective pride,” noting that 2025 marks 78 uninterrupted seasons since the City Council launched this cultural event following the reconstruction of the Campoamor Theatre in 1948. He also underlined that this season coincides with the “starting signal” for the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031, with music being one of its fundamental pillars.

Artistic Director Celestino Varela reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to the bid and presented a programme that combines classics spanning three centuries of tradition with new stage proposals and audiovisual creation elements, aiming to keep innovation and cultural debate alive.
