PÚBLICA 26 strengthens the European cultural debate with the participation of the Oviedo 2031 bid team

Under the theme “Culture for All”, the sixteenth edition of PÚBLICA has once again confirmed its role as one of the leading international forums for cultural professionals in Spain and Ibero-America. Organised by Fundación Contemporánea with the collaboration of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the meeting focused on a key question for the present and future of European cities: how to measure the impact of culture and how to balance its economic profitability with its intangible value.

Within this context, the Oviedo 2031 bid took part in several reflection and networking spaces during the event. The artistic director of the candidacy, Natalia Álvarez Simó, participated in the format “Una cerveza con…”, an informal exchange session between professionals that offered a relaxed setting to share experiences, insights and challenges. Meanwhile, the bid’s external consultant, Cristina Farinha, joined a panel of experts analysing the legacy and challenges of the European Capitals of Culture.

The discussion addressed topics such as international cooperation, the sustainability of projects beyond the year of celebration and their real impact on territories, with particular attention to rural and peripheral initiatives that are redefining the contemporary cultural landscape.

This year’s edition also confirmed a clear trend: the cultural sector is increasingly committed to networking, public-private collaboration and the integration of new generations of professionals. In an open and experimental environment, PÚBLICA 26 reaffirmed its role as a key space to strengthen the cultural ecosystem and to advance towards more participatory, inclusive and sustainable models.

For Oviedo 2031, participation in this international forum represents a strategic opportunity to further position the bid within the European cultural arena, share knowledge with other cities and consolidate new alliances. Because if one thing became clear in this edition, it is that culture is built through networks.
