Oviedo 2031 presents its Institutional Council, comprising more than one hundred companies and organisations

Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031 has presented its Institutional Council, comprising more than one hundred companies, associations and organisations committed to the project. The body began its work in 2025 with around 40 members and has since significantly broadened the representation of Asturias’s business and institutional sectors.

The director of Oviedo 2031, Rodolfo Sánchez, highlighted that this growth reflects the support of Asturian society for a region-wide bid. “We want to continue bringing companies and organisations on board so that the Institutional Council reflects the support and commitment of the whole of Asturias to the project,” he said.

The new members have been brought in by the Head of Institutional Relations and Sponsorships, Javier Sáenz de Jubera. The bid is now entering a new phase focused on securing sponsorships and already has nearly ten companies committed to the project.

After the summer, presentations will continue at the chambers of commerce, the Asturias Federation of Business Owners and other organisations linked to the business community. Oviedo 2031 will also use its presence at the Asturias International Trade Fair to hold new meetings and raise awareness of the project.

Sáenz de Jubera praised the response from companies and said that the aim is to continue broadening participation over the coming months.

The Mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli, stressed the importance of institutional, business and public support for the bid and praised the work of the Oviedo 2031 team. “I am certain that we will succeed because we have an excellent team working on the project and enjoy tremendous support throughout Asturias,” he said.

The Capital of Culture bid will also be the central theme of Oviedo City Council’s stand at the Trade Fair, where culture will play a leading role in the programme.
