Oviedo 2031 presents its new autumn projects at FIDMA

Oviedo 2031 presented this Monday, at Oviedo City Council’s stand at the Asturias International Trade Fair, the projects it will launch this autumn.

The event was attended by Lourdes García López, Councillor for Education, Public Health and Consumer Affairs, and featured contributions from Rodolfo Sánchez Farpón, director of the bid, and Zoe López, co-artistic director.

Sánchez Farpón reviewed the current stage of the bid, which is one of the four Spanish finalists competing to become European Capital of Culture in 2031. “Although Oviedo is the city formally bidding for the title, as required by Europe, from the outset we have conceived the bid as a project for the whole of Asturias,” he said.

Zoe López then presented Small Actions for Amabilidá, an initiative that will connect artists and schools through shared creative processes. A maximum of twelve proposals will be selected and developed in schools between October and December.

The co-artistic director also outlined the autumn programme for Puxa el Barrio, which will include new activities in different neighbourhoods and rural areas of the municipality, and presented an Easy Read publication designed to explain the bid in a clear and accessible way.

“The European Capital of Culture does not begin in 2031, but right now, in every process, every encounter and every person who decides to be part of it,” López said.
