The Oviedo 2031 Capitality Council meets with its new members to strengthen the final bid book
The Oviedo 2031 Capitality Council held a working session this Thursday at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium, the first since the incorporation of its new members. The meeting brought together representatives from the cultural, social, educational, institutional and civic spheres at a decisive moment for Oviedo’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
“The Council is helping us develop a significant part of the artistic projects, but its real role, and that of the cultural sector, will truly begin if we achieve the title,” said Rodolfo Sánchez, director of the bid.
The meeting also served to take stock of the work that enabled Oviedo to pass the first stage of the selection process and become one of the four finalist cities, alongside Granada, Cáceres and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The bid is now focused on preparing the second bid book, which must be submitted to the European jury on 3 November.
During the session, Sánchez presented the current state of the project, accompanied by artistic co-directors Zoe López and Paula Mota. The new members of the Council were also able to share their contributions and priorities to enrich this new stage.
Among the main themes highlighted during the meeting were the projection of La Vega as a major cultural factory open to the whole of Asturias, the cultural, social and institutional unity around the bid, and the role of community culture as a tool for integration, participation and coexistence.
The meeting also underlined the importance of ensuring universal accessibility and of continuing to build a bid that leaves no one behind. Oviedo 2031 thus enters the final phase of the process with an expanded Capitality Council and a solid, European artistic proposal closely connected to the cultural and social reality of Oviedo and Asturias.
